Bank of America Student Credit Card?
I have a bank of america debit card but am looking to get a credit card. I am a student in college and pretty responsible with money. I have a job but not too smart on credit cards. Does anyone know anything about this card, whether it has a good interest rate etc..? also what things lower your credit score. obviously not payin on time but any other tips could help. and please dont tell me not to get one im not asking for a parent im asking for help

I know how a credit card works, or at least the basics. I got an application for a platinum plus visa student card. I think this is a good opportunity to build credit and get myself a camera for college. So how much would I be paying monthly/ percentage? Plus I have about $450 saved up towards the camera and the camera’s total is around $670. If there is any more info that you need ask, I just want to get some type of clue on what I would be paying.

Depending on which student credit card you apply for the rates start at 14.99% and up. And they offer CC’s to full-time an part-time students. There is no annual fee, and even though the rate is higher than some other cards…you can use it to build up your credit profile if you haven’t really established credit. If they’re rates are too high, than you may try Citibank, that’s who i got my first student credit card from.
As for tips…don’t charge more than you can afford and pay it off at the end of the month. In my opinion, credit cards aren’t bad, you just have to live within your means and should you be fine. Using common sense, having discipline, and delaying instant gratificaiton will help and prevent financial turmoil.

No, it doesn’t sound like you do know how credit cards work.
You use the card and receive a statement showing the transactions for that period. The statement will show the balance, the minimum payment, and the due date. You must make at least the minimum payment by the due date. Typically the minimum payment is 3% to 5% of your balance — the minimu payment will change every month since it’s based on your balance. If you only pay the minimum payment it will take years to pay off and you will pay a lot of interest.
Interest is calculated on the average daily balance (total of each day’s balance, divided by the number of days) times the month interest rate (APR divided by 12). The more you pay, the less interest and the faster it gets paid off.
The smartest way to handle any credit card is to use the card for small purchases, wait for the statement, and pay the balance in full every month. This will build good payment history and avoid interest. One of the benefits of using credit cards is the interest free grace period between the purchase date and the statement due date if you pay the balance in full every month.
If you do use the card to buy the camera, pay the $450 you have saved on the first statement that shows the camera purchase. Then pay as much as you can each month but at least the minimum payment to pay it off. Remember credit cards are a short term convenience, not long term financing.

On my account summary it says I have $413.65 for my current balance and my available credit is $286.35. What does my current balance mean? (The $413.65)
It means you charged $413.65 and that is what you owe them.
Your remaining credit is $286.35…. that is all that is left to charge on that card if you don’t pay off the $413.65 first.
To be honest… stop using that card immediately and pay off the $413.65 as soon as possible.
Your total credit limit before you started charging money on the card was $700. If you wanted to use that card the right way you only charge $70 a month and pay that off when the bill comes.
You are dangerously close to your limit and maxing out a student card, or any card for that matter, has serious consequences to your credit rating.
Sit down and read your credit card contract. You should not be on this site and ask what it means to have a balance on your credit card. You should know what that means as soon as you got the card because you read everything that came with the card before you went shopping with it.
