- Make sure you are on the electoral roll. It only takes a few minutes to register with your local council and it will help to improve your credit score over time.
- Always pay bills when they are due. This will begin to improve your credit history and score and will again give you an improved credit rating over time.
- Do not apply for too much credit. The number of times you apply for credit, either credit cards or loans can have a negative effect on your credit score. Every application for credit is logged into your credit file. Too many credit applications in a short period of time may not help your credit rating.
- The truth matters. When applying for credit never give false or misleading details. Always tell the truth. If there are inconsistencies with past credit applications or details that are held on credit checking systems differ from your application it will affect your credit score.
- Start to build a credit history over time and when you check your credit reference file you should find an improved credit score. Remember good credit will not occur over-night, but if you take the time to fix your credit blemishes, your score will improve over time.
So how can you improve credit ratings if you can't get credit? Credit card companieslike our Vanquis and Capital One are specially designed for people with bad credit, or for people that have credit that needs help. Any student credit cards available for adult students with bad credit?
applying for multiple credit cards bad?
Hi,
I am new college student who has just recently opened a bank account. Prior to opening the account I was denied for a Discover credit card due to lack of bank account. after the opening for the accounts, I applied for a bank credit card but got denied due to below minimum income( they don’t have student credit cards).
Then I thought to apply for a Citibank student credit card, I was also denied due to bank account two recent & lack of banking activity. I figure I would applied for Discover one last time since now I do have a bank account. This will be my last attempt to get a credit card. which i will probably be denied.
I realize that after all this…by applying for multiple cards when a short period of time is bad for credit since each credit inquiry counts against you.
How bad do you think my 4 credit inquiries will effect my credit since i had no credit to start with? How long do you suggest I wait before attempting to apply again.
btw: i just want the credit cards so i can buy my textbooks online via ebay, half.com and amazon.
thanks
“adult students with bad credit?”
If you’re college aged or older, finding a card will not be difficult, depending on the degree of your negative credit.
If your credit score is really dismal, you aren’t going to be able to get a secured credit card. However, if your credit score is not too bad, you may be able to receive a secured card, but that card will still be considered a sub-prime card.
I think the best route for you would be to get one of the secured cards; one that reports to the major credit reporting bureaus, which will raise your credit score significantly in time.
I
I went that route, and it worked very well for me. A card that doesn’t report to the credit reporting bureaus is worthless.
You can do some Research with some of these banks, try banks that are big in students loans/programs..check some these bigger banks that have programs targeted student..

Best student credit card for customer service?
I’m a college student, and will like to build up my credit. I’m pretty smart when it comes to my finances, so please do not say “Do not get a credit card”. I’ve had a bad experience with Chase mastercard customer service and would like some suggestions on other credits cards. I’m looking for a reliable company that won’t give me crap.
Thank you!
