Can I take an AP test for credit even if I am not a high school student in an AP class?
I am looking at options for getting statistics credit without actually taking a stats class. I looked on the AP website for this answer but couldn’t quite find what I was looking for.

  2. grkball says:

Is an AP credit in statistics from high school useful for a pre med student?

  3. Den says:

I’m positive you can. I know you can take a certain AP test even if your particular school does not offer that AP course. Just follow what collegeboard.com says and you should be fine.

  4. sherrileon1 says:

Statistics. A student received the following grades:?
an A in Statistics (4 credits), a F in Physics II (5 credits), a B in Sociology (3 credits), a B in a Literature seminar (2 credits), and a D in Tennis (1 credit). Assuming A=4 grade points, B=3 grade points, C=2 grade points, D=1 grade point, and F =0 grade points, the students point average is?
    A)2.47 B)2.24 C)2.52 D)2.40

  5. OR1234 says:

Docs need to know some statistics. Nearly all medical and pharmaceutical studies produce results that are analyzed statistically. You can’t possibly understand that stuff without the math. But I doubt that a HS stat course would be enough. To really understand statistics, you have to take calculus first. Not likely you’d have time to do both in HS. But useful? Sure.

Statistics Help! In a sample of 200 students what is the probability that over 32% of the sample had AP credit?
The registrar of a large university knows that 30% of the students come to college with credit for an advance placement (AP) course. The registrar is going to conduct interviews with 100 students regarding their experiences at the university. Depending on which students are chosen, the proportion of students in the sample that have AP credit may vary.

In this situation what is the standard deviation of the sample proportion of students who have taken an AP course?

In a sample of 200 students what is the probability that over 32% of the sample had AP credit?

  7. M says:

ANSWER: STANDARD DEVIATION = 0.03 for sample size 200, 32% probability

    Why???
    STANDARD DEVIATION = SQRT[0.32 * (1 - 0.32)/200] = 0.03

ANSWER: STANDARD DEVIATION = 0.05 for sample size 100, 30% probability

    Why???
    STANDARD DEVIATION = SQRT[0.30 * (1 - 0.30)/100] = 0.05

  8. Mary P says:

Try making a table to visualize what’s going on. Points = Credit Hours * Grade Points. So, for example, in Statistics a grade of A = 4 grade points was received, where the total credit hours for the class was 4. Therefore Points would be 4 * 4 = 16

    Class___|Class’s Credit Hours_|_Grade_|_Points
    Stats___|________4________|__A=4__|_4*4=16
    Physics_|________5________|__F=0__|_5*0=0
    Sociol__|________3________|__B=3__|_3*3=9
    Liter.___|________2________|__B=3__|__6
    Tennis__|________1 _______|__D=1__|__1
    Total___|______4+5+3+…+1__|_______|_16+0+…+1

After totaling up your Credit Hours and Grade Points you can find the average using the simple equation
Total Grade Points / Total Credit Hours

For some reason I’m not getting an answer that is listed, there must be a typo in your question. Don’t worry, this is the correct way to figure out point average, i.e. GPA.
